Rustic Retreat Near Nashville

Nestled among the trees on ten very private acres in Leiper’s Fork is a sweet little rustic retreat.

NEST near Nashville

A perfect little house . . . nestled in the woods near Nashville.

Broadway Brewhouse and Mojo Grill on Broadway, Nashville, TN.

Everyone should visit Nashville at least once in their lifetime. Nashville is an American icon; it’s the “home of country music” and a major player in the recording industry. All of the Big Four record labels—Universal, Sony, EMI Group, and Warner Music—as well as a myriad of independent labels have offices there. It’s also home of the Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, historic Ryman Auditorium, and Music Row. Downtown, especially in the area encompassing Lower Broadway, Second Avenue, and Printer’s Alley, which is often referred to as the District, there are numerous music clubs and honky-tonk bars, restaurants and grills, and shops galore. Nashville is a vibrant city and the state capitol of Tennessee with a diverse assortment of dining, entertainment, cultural, and architectural attractions that appeal to just about anyone.

Thirty minutes south of Nashville is a whole other world—Leiper’s Fork. Leiper’s Fork is an historic village just off the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway in rural Williamson County in an area many recording artists and entertainment professionals call home. Its close proximity to Nashville makes it a perfect commute as well as getaway for those looking for peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Getting away from it all

The house is at the end of a long road.

The house is located at the end of a secluded, creekside road—literally, half a mile deep in the woods and three miles from downtown Leiper’s Fork. You have to cross two small creeks to get to it. How’s that for secluded?

Front porch with swinging bed.

A full-sized bed swing graces the front porch. There is wifi and a phone, but the only place you can get cell phone reception is at the top of the driveway.

View from the front porch.

From the front porch, you can gaze out at beech trees and sugar maples while listening to the soothing babble of nearby Bedford Creek.

Open-concept living area.

Inside, the small house feels spacious. It features hardwood floors, white paneled walls, and an open floor plan with just over 1100 square feet of living space.

Chic furnishings include a large leather sofa, high-backed armchairs, and distressed wooden tables and cabinets.

Cozy, comfortable living room.

At the end of a long day, curl up on the couch in the cozy, comfortable living room to watch a movie.

French doors lead to the master bedroom.

French doors, off the living area, open to the master bedroom.

Bedroom with king size bed.

The bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, distressed wood plank wall, and comfortable king-size bed. The gingham check on the drapes is perfect—I can’t imagine any other window treatment looking as good.

Details . . . Details . . . Details

Distressed wood planks, industrial lighting, and a whimsical tourist sign.
Distressed wood planks are offset by neatly pressed linen on the bed. Simple industrial lighting hangs above the simple end tables. A tourist sign adds a touch of whimsy.

In the bathroom, white painted planks cover the walls and ceiling. The chandelier, with it’s dripping crystals, mimics the rain-style shower head. More distressed wood, this time used on a storage bench, fits right in with the house’s rustic feel.

Light fixture in bathroom mimics the rain shower.
Bathroom with large shower.

The bathroom has a mirror shaped like an oxen yoke and a good-sized walk-in shower with pebbled flooring. Nice.

Kitchen is fully-functional.

The kitchen is basic and fully-functional with plenty of counter space if you’re inclined to cook meals. If not, you can enjoy southern country cooking at Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant in Leiper’s Fork. It’s a popular destination for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and hosts live music most nights.

Dining area is just beyond the living room.

Real books fill a wall in the loft bedroom.

Again, it’s all in the details. The window wall in the loft is lined with real books—it’s not wallpaper.

Back patio with firepit.

Outside, gather on the patio around the fire pit to roast hot dogs, make s’mores, or sing your favorite country tunes.

Around the other side of the house is a rustic outdoor shower for a uniquely special experience.

For any who’ve never experienced an outdoor shower . . . do, do, do. There’s something uniquely special about showering outside in the midst of nature, the sounds, and fresh air. —Sarah Umstead, House + Sanctuary

Road through the secluded woods.

Perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and scenic drives, the Natchez Trace—an important travel route for Native Americans and early European-American settlers—is one mile down the road. Shopping, dining, and entertainment in Downtown Franklin, billed as “America’s favorite Main Street, is just twelve miles away.

At one time the house was being offered as a rental through House + Sanctuary. You can try contacting them to see if it’s still available.

Hello, we are relocating to the Nashville area for a year-long project with our Talent Agency. We are searching for a property with a rustic-chic design. Is this property available for a year-long commitment?

    Looking forward to hearing back.
